We made less.

On purpose.

Ueno began not as a brand but as a question. What if a product contained only what it needed? What if the bottle itself was worth keeping?

Hana Mori

Co-Founder

Hana grew up watching her grandmother prepare her skin with two things: a cloth and cold water. That image stayed. When she trained as a herbalist in Kyoto, she began to understand why it worked.

Yuki Tanaka

Co-Founder & Formulator

Yuki spent a decade developing formulas for other people's brands. She knew what went into them. She knew what didn't need to. In 2019, she stopped. Ueno began in her kitchen.

We are not trying to fix your skin. We are not trying to fight time. We make products that support what the skin already knows how to do given the chance.

Ma

Negative space

A formula is better for what it leaves out. Copy should breathe. So should skin.

侘寂

Wabi-sabi

Imperfection as integrity

Each batch varies slightly. This is not inconsistency. This is honesty.

こだわり

Kodawari

Quiet obsession

We don't announce our standards. We work to them.

We made a decision early: nothing we make should become waste before its time.

Our bottles are designed to be refilled or returned. The labels are uncoated — they age, as everything does. We work with fewer than six suppliers, all within 400 kilometres of our studio.

Not because we have to. Because we wanted to know their names.

Every order is hand-packed. Every batch is numbered.
The person who made your product signed it.

The things we won't compromise

Everything else can change. These don't.

Small batches.

Long thinking.

We make in small quantities because attention cannot scale. Each blend is mixed by hand, checked by hand, released only when it is ready. There is no production schedule. There is only the formula.

1

1

One formula

at a time.

We do not launch collections. We do not follow seasons. When something new takes shape, it takes the time it needs — sometimes months, sometimes longer. We would rather wait than release something that has not earned its place.

2

2

No fillers.

No noise.

Every ingredient is there because it belongs. We work directly with our suppliers, know the source of everything we use, and keep the supply chain short enough to understand it. What is not in the bottle matters as much as what is.

3

3

Skin that is honoured,

not managed.

We do not believe skin is a problem. It is a living thing — one that changes with age, season, and circumstance. Ueno exists to support that change. Not to override it.

4

4

"Ueno is not finished.
Neither are you.
That is the point."
